CONSERVATION DIVING WEEK

4. October 2025–8. October 2025

Act locally, think globally.

Marine Conservation volunteers in Portofino have the unique opportunity to provide support to our local diving community and research institutes, helping to monitor and restore the delicate ecosystems of the Mediterranean Sea.

As a volunteer conservation diver, you will use and improve your diving skills while being actively involved in assessing the natural conservation status of biodiversity in the Portofino marine protected area and the wider Ligurian Sea.

Highlights

  • Observe and recognize the marine species that characterize the coral habitat of the Mediterranean Sea
  • Recognize signs of disease in organisms most sensitive to the effects of climate change
  • Learn scientific monitoring techniques of climate change indicator species
  • Use photogrammetry as an innovative tool to monitor habitat complexity and species growth patterns
  • Practice techniques for restoring the most damaged habitats
